See you at the Top

As I’m sure most of you have heard, speaker Zig Ziglar died yesterday in Texas, not far from where I was born.

.

He was 86 years young and was married for 66 years to his wife, Jean, whom he usually referred to as “The Redhead” in his talks. His marriage was the great accomplishment in his life and my husband Mike Stott continues to read a very beat-up version of “Courtship After Marriage” every year.   His book about raising kids in a negative world helped Mike and I raise some of best human beings I know.

Zig wrote 30 other books including “See you at the Top” and many other bestsellers.  For those of us that have been around awhile, seeing Zig in person is one of the highlights in our memories of sales training.  His positivity was infectious and he sincerely cared about his audience and making us into better PEOPLE, not JUST better salespeople. His was a passion.  A calling.  I was fortunate to see him live a number of times and even got to meet him once. It was an honor to look in his eyes and see that sincere smile close up. Unforgettable.

Zig may be most famous for the sales trainer quote “You can have EVERYTHING you want in life… if you’ll just help enough other people get what THEY want”.  Pretty valuable advice.

I Coach Real Estate agents every day. It’s my calling. It’s my passion.  And I hope that in my own way, I’m taking Zig’s Advice… I’m helping other people get what THEY want… so I can get everything I want.  Some people say why hire a Coach… I already know what to do, I just don’t have the motivation to do it.   And I’d quote Zig again… “They say motivation doesn’t last… and I say, neither does bathing… that’s why we recommend it daily!”

Zig fell in 2007 and wrote about this injury afterwards with his daughter about his struggles to recover. He never stopped being himself. He was a man full of integrity and honor.  Simple commitment.

I’d highly recommend reading Zig’s Books… or at least reading some of is best Quotes.  They will serve you well.  As for my final words… Zig… I hope someday to “See you at the Top”.

  1. Nice words, Donna. He was one of the first public speakers I had ever seen. I bought so many of his books. Saw him a few years ago too. Just adored him. Sad to see him go … you are alot like him too. You care so much about your people and we appreciate that.
